Carnival of Light

Welcome to the Hoddesdon & Broxbourne Carnival Website

Many people only see the Carnival Court at their own Town Carnival and so do not realise how important a role the Carnival plays in promoting Hoddesdon & Broxbourne around the country and further afield.

During 2009 members have attended and been involved in Germany and the Carnival Court represented the Town and Country at a recent Euro Carnival Competition held in Disneyland Paris. Nearer to home we have visited the Carnivals of Hornsey, Enfield, Kettering, Deal, Folkstone, Ramsgate Basildon, and Burnham on Crouch to name but a few!

The Committee are at present making preparations for the next Hoddesdon & Broxbourne "Carnival of Light" and are approaching you to invite you to join in the Carnival Spirit and put an entry into the parade.

As in previous years, there is no entry fee for the parade and we provide you with an opportunity of free advertising.

All we ask is that your float, truck, handcart, pram or umbrella is decorated, lit and preferably has an element of music. Alternatively maybe members from your organisation, school, shop, street or family would like to take part on foot – fancy dress is mandatory and if you can illuminate yourself with light sticks or by other means then again this adds value to the event. It will be a really fun day of which you can be a part and at the same time help the local community and provide the people of Hoddesdon with a spectacle to remember. We do hope that you will join us on the day as we are a small committee who give our time freely on a voluntary basis.

The parade will take place on Saturday 11th December 2010 and moves off promptly at 17:00 from opposite Westfield School in Westfield Road. Entries are bookable on line at "Hoddesdon Carnival" or by calling 01920 412021. The parade covers a route of just over one mile, taking approximately 1 hour in total to complete and the official collection this year will be for the Isabel Hospice.

Parade Route - Westfield Road, Norris Rise, Winterscroft Road, Langton Road, Lord Street, Rose Vale, Park View, Cock Lane, High Street and into the Town Centre.
